Tennessee Sports Betting Sees Decrease in February Wagering

In Tennessee, the sports betting sector witnessed a decline in consumer spending for the third consecutive month in February, marking a notable shift in the market dynamics. Despite this decrease, the total amount wagered in the state showed a year-on-year increase, reflecting a nuanced trend in the industry.

During February, gross wagers in Tennessee reached $417.4 million, indicating a 24% drop from the previous month’s figures. However, this amount surpassed the $380.4 million spent on sports betting during the same period last year by 8.7%. The Tennessee Sports Wagering Council reported a consistent decline in gross wagers each month since November 2024, when a record-breaking $598.6 million was wagered.

Following adjustments totaling $3.9 million, the gross handle for February settled at $413.5 million, showing a decrease of 23.9% compared to January but a 9.3% increase from the previous year. The government revenue from sports betting in Tennessee amounted to $7.6 million, emphasizing the financial implications of the industry on the state’s economy.

Despite the decline in spending, Tennessee boasts a diverse market with 11 active platforms, including prominent brands like Caesars, Bally Bet, FanDuel, and DraftKings. The Council, however, does not disclose specific revenue figures or provide a breakdown of activity by operators or sports, leaving room for further analysis and interpretation of the market dynamics.

The fluctuating trends in sports betting spending in Tennessee underscore the evolving nature of the industry, influenced by various factors such as consumer behavior, regulatory changes, and market competition. As the sector continues to evolve, monitoring these shifts in spending patterns provides valuable insights into the broader landscape of sports betting in the state and beyond.
