In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, the remarkable achievements and contributions of women in the field of science are being highlighted. Women are increasingly joining science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine (STEMM) careers, with their numbers growing faster than men. While women currently represent approximately 35% of the STEMM workforce, studies indicate that they thrive when provided with mentorship, support, and guidance from fellow women who share similar experiences.
Nature’s annual Inspiring Women in Science Award, launched in 2018 in collaboration with the Estée Lauder Companies, recognizes individuals who advance gender equality in science. Six previous award winners have nominated inspiring women who have influenced their research endeavors and paved the way for other women in the scientific community.
