Residents Encouraged to Provide Feedback on Maitland Mental Health Project

Residents in the Hunter region are being called upon to share their opinions on the forthcoming Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation Project, a significant initiative under the NSW Government’s Statewide Mental Health Infrastructure Program, with an allocated budget of $700 million. The project aims to establish a new facility at the Maitland Hospital campus in Metford, bolstering specialized mental health services and providing improved care for individuals in need of ongoing support.

Recently, the Review of Environmental Factors (REF) associated with the project was made available for public review. Interested parties can access the relevant planning documents and supporting materials on the Health Infrastructure website. Maitland MP Jenny Aitchison expressed her satisfaction with the project’s progress and emphasized the importance of community engagement during the public exhibition phase.

Extensive consultations with various stakeholders, including staff, patients, caregivers, and the local community, have informed the design of the facility. The envisioned center will feature contemporary inpatient rehabilitation facilities, designated therapy spaces, upgraded outdoor and recreational amenities, and a care strategy centered on promoting patient recovery and independence.

According to Minister for Mental Health Rose Jackson, the investment in the Maitland Mental Health Rehabilitation Project represents a significant step towards enhancing mental health care services and facilitating the recovery process for individuals in need. Construction of the facility is expected to commence in late 2025, pending planning approvals and the selection of a construction contractor.

Feedback on the project is actively encouraged and can be submitted through the project website until the specified deadline in April. For additional details, interested parties can visit the dedicated project webpage. This initiative underscores the ongoing efforts to improve mental health services and underscores the importance of community involvement in shaping crucial developments in the healthcare landscape.
