Parkes Shire Council, in collaboration with Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations, has recently announced the recipients of the latest round of sports grants. The funding program for 2025 saw a total of $30,000 being awarded to eight sporting organizations, alongside $5,000 granted to six young athletes through the Rising Star Grant Program.
Congratulating the successful applicants, Councilor Louise O’Leary emphasized the significance of these grants in nurturing local talent and bolstering community sports groups. She highlighted the pivotal role these grants play in fortifying grassroots initiatives, upgrading sports facilities, and aiding promising young athletes in realizing their aspirations.
The Rising Star Grant Program, a joint effort by Evolution Mining and Parkes Shire Council, aims to offer financial aid to individual sportspersons, especially juniors, showcasing potential and requiring support to advance their sporting pursuits. Recipients of the Rising Star Grant automatically qualify for the Parkes Shire Australia Day Sports Awards, with one recipient receiving the prestigious Ron Harrison OAM Rising Star Award.
On the sporting front, both Evolution Mining and Parkes Shire Council contribute $30,000 annually to facilitate two rounds of funding. These grants are instrumental in assisting local sports clubs and organizations in boosting participation rates and enhancing sports infrastructure throughout the Shire.
The recent recipients of the Rising Star Grant Program include athletes from various disciplines such as Rugby League, Lawn Bowls, Soccer, Athletics, and Hockey. Each recipient received a designated amount to further their training and competition endeavors.
Similarly, the Sporting Organization Grants for 2025 were awarded to diverse entities like the Holy Family P&F Association, Parkes & District Amateur Soccer Association, Parkes Croquet Club, and others. These grants were allocated for projects ranging from purchasing sports equipment and training gear to funding coaching sessions and acquiring new sports technology.
The grants serve as a testament to the commitment of Parkes Shire Council and Evolution Mining Northparkes Operations towards promoting sports at the grassroots level and nurturing emerging talent in the region. The impact of these grants extends beyond mere financial assistance, contributing to the overall development and growth of sports within the Parkes community.
Looking ahead, the next round of grant funding is set to open later in the year, offering further opportunities for local sports organizations and aspiring athletes to benefit from this collaborative initiative.
