Best Buy has appointed Neal Sample as its new chief digital and technology officer in a strategic move to enhance its digital initiatives. With an extensive background in leading digital transformations, Sample is set to commence his role on July 14, 2025.
Previously, Sample held the position of executive vice president and CIO at Walgreens Boots Alliance, following stints as CIO at Northwestern Mutual and COO of Express Scripts. His diverse experience also includes serving as a Group President of Enterprise Growth at American Express, highlighting his proficiency in navigating both traditional and tech-focused organizations. Notably, Sample holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University.
Neal Sample will be taking over from Brian Tilzer, who had been the Chief Digital, Analytics, and Technology Officer at Best Buy since 2018. Tilzer, who transitioned from the role of Chief Digital Officer at CVS Health, played a significant part in advancing the company’s digital strategies.
CEO Corie Barry lauded Sample’s versatile expertise, emphasizing his valuable experience in legacy businesses and digital-native companies such as eBay and Yahoo!.
