Members of the World Motor Sport Council convened in Macau for the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile’s annual conference. Chaired by President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the meeting highlighted the significant progress made in the world of motor sport, emphasizing technological advancements, emerging talents, and fierce competitions across various championships. President Ben Sulayem commended the financial stability achieved by the FIA, with a profit of €4.7 million reinvested into key projects supporting global motorsport participation.
The Council approved groundbreaking safety regulations for vehicles powered by liquid hydrogen, setting stringent standards for integration, storage systems, and refueling procedures. This move positions motor sport as a pioneer in sustainable innovations and aims to drive hydrogen technology advancements in the broader mobility sector.
Malaysia was announced as the host for the inaugural FIA Karting Arrive and Drive World Cup, designed to nurture emerging talent and broaden access to grassroots motor sport. The event, part of the FIA’s Global Karting Plan, will feature a cost-effective format to ensure technical parity and inclusivity for talented drivers globally.
The Council also finalized regulations for the upcoming WRC27, introducing flexibility in bodywork designs to usher in a new era for the FIA World Rally Championship. Additionally, approvals were granted for the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship calendar, the 2025-2026 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and the 2026 FIA World Rally-Raid Championship calendar, among others.
Noteworthy decisions included the introduction of the FIA Karting Excellence Centre shootout, Super Licence points for winners, and a Regional Trophy concept for Formula Regional and Formula 4 categories, aiming to enhance global participation and accessibility in motor sport.
The FIA’s commitment to combating online abuse in sports was underscored, with plans for a major conference in September in Stockholm as part of the United Against Online Abuse campaign. The event will bring together key stakeholders to address online abuse across sporting disciplines.
Looking ahead, the World Motor Sport Council outlined upcoming meetings and initiatives, reflecting a dynamic landscape of innovation, talent development, and sustainability in the world of motor sport.
