A new strategic technology alliance has been formed by Honeywell, Johnson Matthey, GIDARA Energy, and SAMSUNG E&A to address the increasing demand for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) through the use of biomass and municipal solid waste. This collaboration aims to provide a comprehensive solution for SAF production, covering the entire process from feedstock to the final product.
By leveraging the Fischer-Tropsch (FT) production process, the alliance plans to tap into a wide range of feedstock options globally to support energy security and meet the rising need for SAF. The joint effort is designed to streamline project timelines, offer a single point of accountability, and ensure efficiency and reliability throughout the production chain.
With the combined expertise of the four companies, the integrated solution is expected to significantly reduce the time and capital required for setting up SAF production facilities. This initiative marks a significant step towards addressing the energy challenges faced by the industry and underscores the importance of collaboration in driving innovation and sustainability.
Commenting on the alliance, Ken West, President, and CEO of Honeywell Energy and Sustainability Solutions, emphasized the significance of expanding feedstock options to meet the growing demand for SAF. He highlighted the alliance’s role in providing a strategic approach for refiners to implement their vision effectively and efficiently.
Maurits van Tol, CEO of Catalyst Technologies at Johnson Matthey, underscored the importance of overcoming common challenges in SAF production and praised the alliance for offering a faster and more cost-effective path forward. The collaboration aims to facilitate faster decision-making for customers and accelerate the adoption of SAF on a global scale.
Dr. Norbert Kamp, CEO of GIDARA Energy, emphasized the transformative potential of waste as a valuable resource for producing SAF. He highlighted the alliance’s role in not just providing a technical solution but also in enabling clients and communities to harness the power of waste for a cleaner and sustainable energy future.
The industry experts involved in the alliance believe that the joint effort will play a crucial role in driving innovation, reducing environmental impact, and meeting the growing demand for sustainable aviation fuel. By combining their resources and expertise, the companies aim to revolutionize the SAF production process and contribute to a more sustainable aviation industry.
