DC Studios’ latest press event provided significant updates on James Gunn’s DC Universe (DCU). Since the original lineup announcement two years ago, only one project has been released. However, the recent event shed light on the future of the DCU Chapter One.
Firstly, it was confirmed that Robert Pattinson’s Batman won’t be integrated into the DCU, maintaining independence under Matt Reeves’ Bat-Verse. This decision came after speculation about merging the Batman Universe into the DCU lineup, which was debunked by Gunn and Safran.
While Superman remains a focal point, other projects like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Lanterns received significant updates during the event. Supergirl’s movie, set for a 2026 release, is well into production, with Lanterns, a unique sci-fi series, wrapping up its first week of filming.
Horror director Mike Flanagan’s Clayface movie, set to start filming in mid-2025, promises a dark and psychological take on the character. Additionally, projects like Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and Swamp Thing are still in the works, with varying degrees of progress and challenges.
However, not all projects are proceeding smoothly. Waller and The Authority face setbacks due to creative challenges and audience reception concerns. Despite these hurdles, Gunn and Safran aim to release up to seven DCU productions annually, including movies and TV shows, to cater to diverse audience preferences.
