Sustainability in construction economics is a critical aspect that influences the adoption of cloud computing in small-scale building projects. The application of intelligent technology has the potential to revolutionize the construction industry by enhancing decision-making, streamlining processes, and optimizing project outcomes. However, there are several barriers to the use of intelligent computing in small-scale construction projects in China.
A recent study aimed to identify these challenges and provide solutions using a mixed-methods approach that included quantitative analysis, structural equation modeling, and a comprehensive literature review. The study highlighted key problems such as specialized challenges, data integration difficulties, financial and cultural constraints, privacy and ethical issues, limited data accessibility, and scalability and connection problems.
The findings emphasized the importance of overcoming these barriers to fully utilize intelligent computing in the construction sector. Recommendations and practical strategies were provided to help industry participants overcome these challenges. While the geographical emphasis and cross-sectional approach were noted as limitations, they also presented opportunities for further investigation.
The study significantly contributes to the growing body of knowledge on intelligent computing in small-scale construction projects and offers practical guidance on how businesses can leverage their transformative potential. By addressing these challenges, stakeholders can enhance operational efficiency, sustainability, and project outcomes through the adoption of intelligent computing technologies.
